Pest Fish Competition
Competitor Guide
Everything you need to know about the app, your QR code, and how your catches are recorded on the day.
📱 Before the Day — What to Expect
After you register for the competition, you will receive a text message (SMS) on the mobile number you registered with. This message contains a personal link to the competition app and a QR code that the recorders will scan when you bring in a catch.
Example SMS you will receive:
Hi Sarah!
You're checked in! Open the app to view your QR code and track your catches:
https://bit.ly/abc1234
The link may be shortened via Bitly — it is always safe to tap.

Tap the link in the SMS message
The link will open in Safari (iPhone's default browser). If it asks which browser to use, choose Safari.

📲 What You'll See in the App
Once the app loads, it shows everything you need for the competition on one screen:
-
🏷️
Your Competition Number
Your unique number for this event. The recorder may ask for it verbally as a backup.
-
📷
Your Personal QR Code
Show this to the recorder each time you bring in a pest fish. They scan it to open your catch entry page — no need for you to do anything else.
-
📊
Your Running Catch Totals
Catfish, Tilapia, and Total counts update in real time. Check back through the day to see your score building up.
🎣 On the Day — Recording a Catch
-
Catch a pest fish (catfish or tilapia)
Bring it to the designated weigh-in or recording point — your event programme will show where this is.
-
Open the app and show your QR code
Unlock your phone and open the app (either from your home screen icon, or by tapping the original SMS link). Hold the QR code up so the recorder can scan it.
-
The recorder scans and enters the count
The recorder uses their own device to scan your QR code, then enters the number of catfish and/or tilapia you've brought in. They submit it with their staff PIN — you don't need to do anything.
-
Check your totals update
After the recorder submits, your running totals in the app will update within about 30 seconds. You'll see your Catfish, Tilapia, and Total scores increase.
-
Repeat for each catch through the day
You can bring in and record as many catches as you like throughout the competition. Each visit to the recorder adds to your total score.
🔄 If the App Looks Out of Date — How to Refresh
If your catch totals aren't updating, or the app looks wrong, a quick refresh will fetch the latest data from the server.
-
Tap the reload button (↺) in Safari's address bar
This refreshes the page and pulls the latest catch totals from the server.
-
If that doesn't work — force close and reopen
Swipe up from the bottom of your screen to see open apps, swipe Safari off the top to close it, then reopen Safari and tap your link again.
-
Hard refresh (clears stored cache)
Go to
Settings → Safari → Clear History and Website Data, then reopen the app via your SMS link. Note: this will log you out of websites, but your SMS link will log you back into the competition app automatically.
-
Tap the three-dot menu (⋮) → Refresh
This reloads the page and pulls the latest data.
-
If that doesn't work — close and reopen Chrome
Tap the square "recents" button, swipe Chrome off the screen to close it fully, then reopen Chrome and tap your SMS link again.
-
Hard refresh (clears stored cache)
In Chrome tap ⋮ → More tools → Clear browsing data → tick Cached images and files → tap Clear data. Then reopen the app via your SMS link.
❓ Common Questions
I didn't receive an SMS — what do I do?
Check that the mobile number on your registration was entered correctly. SMS messages are sent automatically after check-in — if you haven't received one within a few minutes of check-in, speak to the event co-ordinator at the registration desk.
My QR code isn't showing
Make sure you have a data connection and refresh the page (see the Refresh section above). Your competition number is always shown on screen — give that to the recorder as a backup and they can find your record manually.
My totals don't match what I expected
Totals update every 30 seconds automatically. Pull down to refresh or tap the browser reload button to force an immediate update. If you believe a catch was missed or recorded incorrectly, speak to the event co-ordinator — they have admin access to check and correct records.
Can I share my QR code with someone else?
No — your QR code and competition number are linked personally to your registration. Catches recorded under your code count toward your individual score and prizes. Do not share your app link or QR with other participants.
